Conversations: Ally Mukhriz
Who is Ally Mukhriz?
In my opinion, my view of myself is very different to how people portray me to be. I live a fairly normal life. My favourite thing to do is watch documentaries on netflix in my sweats. I love having that once-a-month ‘glow up’ where I show up to an event in makeup and a gorgeous dress. People think that that’s Ally Mukhriz’s life all the time but it really isn’t. I’m also a master’s student and I definitely aspire to have both a successful career and a full family in the future.
I’m so blind! The first thing I do is put on my contact lenses because I can’t see anything. I make my bed, then I brush my teeth, shower and get a cup of Chek Hup Ipoh white coffee (my fave!). After that, I just get on with my day.
Describe your personal style.
I tend to change according to my mood. My normal, personal style is very street style. I love Off White and Gucci. I live in either track bottoms or skinny jeans. I have just ventured out into skirts. I don’t think i’m very adventurous but i’ll get there!
Where do you find inspirations?
A lot of the time, I see what’s trendy. Instagram is the app that influences me the most. I follow a lot of style accounts and I get inspiration from that.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’ll be 33! Haha wow that’s a strange thought. Hopefully married to the love of my life. Maybe (2?) kids. And hopefully on my way up the career ladder.
Who is your Instagram girl crush?
Negin Mirsalehi. She’s so goals. Her style and her life just looks so positive and happy. I’d love to be her for a day!
Favourite city to visit?
Either London or Paris. I think London is just a second home to me. I’ve established a routine here so it’s comfortable. Paris is a beautiful, magical city. It’s so beautiful and so romantic to visit.
You're stranded on a desert island and can only bring five things from your closet-what would you grab?
Lulu Lemon yoga pants, any top and probably as many pairs of underwear that I can grab haha
What are you currently listening to?
Currently listening to: Last night (A DJ saved my life) by Intodeep.
#Fakenews, people who bite their nails and people who shake their leg when they sit (my boyfriend does this and I have to stop him every time).
What do you think of styles and fashion in Malaysia?
I love how it’s very different to western style. We’re exposed to western beauty standards and style every day and it brainwashes a young girl into thinking that that’s the norm. I love how Malaysian fashion takes trendy western styles and adds a new twist to it to make it modern and exciting. For example, Yuna took the hijabster style and made it so trendy and modern! That’s how I see Malaysian style.
What do you hope to be doing in 20 years from now?
Sending my kids to school then going off to work at my business.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’m really good at Uno. Does that count?
What's the best relationship advice you've ever received?
My dad told me when my heart was broken that i’ll always find better and it’s not the end. My mum told me to never settle for anyone who doesn’t treat you like a queen. Words that has rang in my mind through all my relationships.
Lastly, what would you say to your 17 year old self?
It will always get better.
